Vote comes one day after unanimous commissioners vote on re-opening efforts
HARRISBURG – As Pennsylvania’s unemployment statistics continue to rise, and the COVID-19 ‘curve’ is flattened, the House of Representatives sent a plan to allow counties to develop and implement their own COVID-19 mitigation plans for businesses to the Governor’s desk.
“Our letter to Governor Wolf asked him to move our county from ‘red’ to ‘yellow’, and our Lancaster County commissioners move forward with their play to do just that this week by voting unanimously to approve plans for expanded testing, economic recovery and assisting nursing homes,” House Majority Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Peach Bottom) said. “Those important steps show the Governor our commissioners are making bipartisan strides to help our residents, and our House vote today shows our local leaders they are not acting alone.”
Senate Bill 327 is a comprehensive response to the pandemic, and it allows a county’s governing body to develop its own COVID-19 mitigation plan to fit the unique circumstances of their own communities. The plan must be in consultation with county health and emergency management officials.
“Business owners and their employees are growing more frustrated by the day, and now we are learning some waivers have been revoked,” Rep. Keith Greiner (R-Upper Leacock). “Allowing counties to make their own decisions is in the best interest of public health, both physical and mental, and we encourage the Governor to sign SB 327 into law.”
